EcoVadis rewards Cleaning Masters’ sustainability policy with a silver medal

EcoVadis has again rewarded the sustainability efforts of Cleaning Masters with a silver medal.

Who or what is EcoVadis?

EcoVadis is an international rating agency that evaluates companies on sustainability. It was founded in 2007 in Paris. EcoVadis now has offices all over the world. More than 75,000 companies have had their sustainability efforts audited by EcoVadis.

How does EcoVadis assess company sustainability?

EcoVadis evaluates companies on 21 criteria divided into four themes: ‘Environment’, ‘Labour and human rights’, ‘Ethics’ and ‘Sustainable procurement’. “Depending on the sector, EcoVadis gives these themes a different weighting when assessing a company’s sustainability. In the cleaning sector, ‘Labour and Human Rights’ receives the highest weight, with ‘Environment’ as the second most important theme,” says Tom Liottier, Quality manager at Multi Masters Group. “The scores of the four themes are combined and that’s how you get the overall sustainability score of a company.”

Sustainability and social responsibility are not just empty words at Cleaning Masters, according to the audit by EcoVadis.

How does Cleaning Masters score in terms of sustainability?

Cleaning Masters has achieved an overall sustainability score of 61 out of 100 during the EcoVadis audit. A score that is worth a silver medal. “With this score we are doing four points better than last year. Just like in previous years, we have made a nice leap forward. This time we have made particular progress in the area of ‘Labour and human rights’.”

“We are now only five points away from a gold medal. Following in the footsteps of our French parent company Samsic, we very much want to get there. So we know what we have to do.”

What are Cleaning Masters’ objectives in terms of sustainability?

To make further progress, Cleaning Masters will continue to focus on implementing its CSR policy. “Indeed. We want to be very focused. That’s why we have selected 6 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations:

  • Good health and well-being (SDG 3)
  • Quality education (SDG 4)
  • Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8)
  • Industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9)
  • Reduced inequalities (SDG 10)
  • Sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11)

This is where we want to make a difference. To make this happen, we have made 12 commitments. That way, we hope to win a gold medal next year. But more importantly, it will enable us to deal more responsibly and sustainable with our people, our environment and our planet.”

What is the importance of the EcoVadis ranking?

“Many companies have clear sustainability requirements for their suppliers. You don’t just have to tell them what you are doing, you also have to be able to prove it. It’s about ruling out ‘greenwashing’. The recognition by EcoVadis proves that at Cleaning Masters – and in a broader sense the entire Multi Masters Group – these are not just empty words. Our silver medal shows that we’re really committed to sustainability and corporate social responsibility.”
