VCA, the abbreviation is used very often in the service sector, including in the world of facility management. Many know that the abbreviation VCA has to do with safety. But what exactly does VCA stand for? What are the advantages and why is it so important? We are happy to explain.

VCA: what does this abbreviation mean?

The abbreviation VCA stands for Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Checklist of Contractors. Although it is much more than just a checklist. It is a certificate that helps companies create a safe working environment and reduce accidents.

VCA is intended for companies carrying out high-risk work, such as in construction, petrochemical industry, but certainly also in facility services. When a company has an VCA certificate, it shows that it complies with current safety, health and environmental requirements in various areas. An VCA certificate is valid for 3 years once awarded provided the company concerned passes the interim audit every year.

Advantages of VCA certificate

Types of VCA certificates

There are three levels of certification: VCA*, VCA** and VCA petrochemical.

  1. VCA* is meant for companies with less than 35 employees who do not perform complex high-risk work and do not use subcontractors.
  2. VCA** is for companies with more than 35 employees and/or that are using subcontractors and/or that are performing complex risky work.
  3. VCA P is for companies that carry out assignments in the petrochemical sector.

For VCA** the requirements are slightly higher than for VCA*. VCA P in turn is the highest recognition in the field of safe working. Within Multi Masters Group, Green Masters, Maintenance Masters and Techni Masters have a VCA certificate. Cleaning Masters, Construct Masters, Hygi Masters, Security Masters and Safety Masters have a VCA P-certificate.

In addition to the VCA certificates mentioned, there is also a VCU certificate. VCU is specifically aimed at companies in the temporary employment sector. Within the Multi Masters Group, temporary employment agency Recrewtment has a VCU certificate.
